Unlike most other pre-schools, Kingston offers a dedicated rising 5 class once a week. This takes place on Wednesdayís when, like school, children are split into distinct and separate class groups, Rising 5ís and all younger children.
For the younger children our Wednesday sessions are no different to any others. For rising 5 children we have a more structured approach. Whilst still covering all areas of development, more emphasis is placed on developing pencil control, co-ordination, early writing skills, letter, number, shape and colour recognition and concept experiments. In addition we aim to prepare children for some of the differences they will encounter at school like changing for PE and taking reading books home in book bags.
During each summer term, Year 5 children and reception class teachers from Iford & Kingston C of E Primary School and Rodmell CEP School visit our rising 5 class and in turn our rising 5 children who are accepted for these schools are invited to taster mornings prior to their transition.
Our objective is to ensure that by the time your child leaves us they will be more independent and confident in their social skills and prepared for some of the routines they will encounter at school.
